1 · Connect
- Install Mumble 1.5 or newer.
- Add a server: address
…, any username (use your in-game name). Ask a leader for the password. - In Settings → Audio Input, set Transmit to Push To Talk.
- When you connect, Mumble sends you a private message with your personal platoon-view link. Lost it? Type
!linkin the chat.
You start in Platoon HQ. Join a squad from the platoon view, by double-clicking a squad channel, or with !squad bravo.
2 · Keybinds
In Settings → Shortcuts, press Add once per row, pick the Function, then set the key. Everyone should set up all three: you can become a leader at any time, and the server only lets the keys work when your role allows it.
| Net | Function | Data (click the cell) | Works for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squad | Push-to-Talk | — | everyone |
| Leaders | Whisper/Shout | Channel → select Platoon 1 › Command | squad leaders, platoon leader |
| Platoon | Whisper/Shout | Channel → select Platoon 1, tick Shout to subchannels | platoon leader |
Leave “Restrict to Group” empty. If a key does nothing, your role doesn't allow that net right now.
3 · Ear panning plugin (recommended)
- Download platoon-voice.mumble_plugin. Nothing to run: it's a file Mumble imports.
- In Mumble open Settings → Plugins, press Install plugin... and pick the downloaded file. Mumble says “The plugin was installed successfully”.
- Tick Enable next to Platoon Voice in the list, then OK.
| You hear | Ear |
|---|---|
| Your squad | right |
| Leader net | left |
| Platoon leader's broadcast | both |
| Anything while you're in the lobby | both |
The plugin also lowers lower-ranked voices while a leader talks: your squad leader over the squad, your platoon leader over everyone.
Without the plugin everything still works: voices are centred, and Mumble itself turns everyone else down while any leader talks. With the plugin on, Mumble's per-user volume sliders don't affect speech.
